Kiambethu Tea Farm Day Tour: Limuru Heritage & Lunch

2 Days

Overview

Join an Authentic Kiambethu Tea Farm Day Tour

Experience the history and beauty of Kenya’s highlands. A Kiambethu Tea Farm day tour lets you see one of the oldest tea estates in Africa. This farm is in Limuru and offers a quiet escape from the city. You will learn how tea grows while enjoying the cool air. This trip is perfect for those who love nature and history. It provides a unique look at the rural life that sustains Kenya’s economy.

History of Your Kiambethu Tea Farm Day Tour

The story of this estate began in 1910. AB McDonell was a pioneer who started the tea industry in Kenya. Today, his granddaughter manages the farm. She shares great stories about the past. You can learn more about the industry through the Tea Board of Kenya. This talk is a highlight of the visit. It helps you understand why Kenyan tea is famous around the world.

The Unique Climate of the Limuru Highlands

Limuru sits at a high altitude of over 2,000 meters above sea level. This height creates the perfect cool and misty climate for tea. Because the air is crisp, the tea leaves grow slowly and develop a rich flavor. During your Kiambethu Tea Farm day tour, you will feel the temperature drop as you leave Nairobi. This refreshing weather makes the walk through the fields very pleasant. It is a sharp contrast to the heat of the lower plains.

Nature on Your Kiambethu Tea Farm Day Tour

Your visit includes a walk through a native forest. Look for Colobus monkeys and local birds in the trees. You will also see the tea fields up close. You can learn how workers pick the leaves by hand. This area is famous for its beauty and is often featured by the Kenya Tourism Board. This walk is a key part of the experience. It allows you to see the local flora and fauna in a protected habitat.

Enjoy a Fresh Lunch in the Highlands

After your walk, you will enjoy a three-course lunch. We use fresh ingredients from the farm garden. The menu often includes homemade soups, garden salads, and delicious desserts. You will also taste different types of tea produced on-site. If you want to see more, check the National Museums of Kenya for local sites. Our team handles every detail for you. We provide transport and expert guides to ensure a perfect Kiambethu Tea Farm day tour.

Day Trip Brief Itinerary

Tours start off at 11:00 am from the main house. Marcus and Fiona welcome you with some home made biscuits (yum!) and of course tea, before regaling tales of the farm and the tea making process

The gardens around the home are lovely and well worth a stroll, especially to catch glimpses of the resident colobus monkeys! Also included in the tour is a walk through the indigenous forest that is still preserved (most was cleared for the tea farms). The guide is highly entertaining and comical!

The tour ends with a relaxed lunch. Again most of the produce is locally sourced and when making reservations inform them of any dietary requirements! The veggie options they had made was fantastic. Lunch is a 3 course affair with complementary beverages – wine, beers, sherry, soft drinks and of course teas and coffee!
