Mt. Longonot Day Hike: From the Crater Rim to Lake Naivasha

Tour Itinerary: A High-Altitude Adventure

07:00 AM | Departure from Nairobi Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or the airport. We travel via the Great Rift Valley Viewpoint, where we pause for photos of the breathtaking escarpment before descending toward the floor of the valley in our comfortable 4x4 Safari Land Cruiser.

08:30 AM | Arrival at Mt. Longonot National Park After a brief check-in and safety orientation with your professional hiking guide, the trek begins. The lower slopes are a unique "walking safari" zone—be ready to spot Giraffes, Zebras, and Warthogs grazing in the whistling thorn acacias as you begin your ascent.

10:30 AM | The Summit & Crater Rim After a steady climb, you will reach the crater rim. The reward is a spectacular view into the massive caldera, which houses a hidden, lush forest. For the energetic, there is an option to hike the 7.2km circumference of the rim, offering 360-degree views of Lake Naivasha and the Mount Suswa volcano.

12:30 PM | Descent and Refresh We begin our descent back to the park gate. The downward trek is faster, offering a different perspective of the volcanic rock formations and unique flora that define this ecosystem.

01:30 PM | Lunch at Lake Naivasha (Fisherman’s Camp) A short 20-minute drive takes us to the shores of Lake Naivasha. Enjoy a well-deserved hot lunch at the famous Fisherman’s Camp or a similar lakeside lodge, surrounded by yellow-fever trees and the sound of hippos in the distance.

02:30 PM | Optional Boat Safari & Crescent Island To soothe tired legs, enjoy an optional boat ride on Lake Naivasha. This is the best way to see hippos up close and an array of birdlife, including the African Fish Eagle. You may also choose to walk among wildlife at Crescent Island Game Sanctuary.

04:00 PM | Return Journey to Nairobi Relax as we drive back to the city, arriving at approximately 06:00 PM for drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
