Detailed 5 Day Tsavo and Amboseli Safari from Mombasa Itinerary
When you embark on this 5 Day Tsavo and Amboseli Safari from Mombasa, your journey begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Diani or Mombasa. Initially, we head toward Tsavo East National Park, famous for its “red elephants” and the vast Yatta Plateau. Moreover, as we transition into the volcanic landscapes of Tsavo West, you will witness the crystal-clear waters of Mzima Springs. Specifically, our silver-level guides focus on tracking the elusive leopards and lions that frequent these rocky outcrops. Therefore, the first leg of your trip is packed with diverse sightings and dramatic scenery.
Luxury 4×4 Land Cruiser Transport for Your 5-Day Adventure
As a professional tour operator, we know that the vehicle is the heart of your experience. Specifically, the roads between Tsavo and Amboseli require heavy-duty suspension and high ground clearance. Instead of a standard minivan, we provide custom-built Jeeps with pop-up roofs. Furthermore, our vehicles are air-cooled and dust-proof to ensure you arrive at your lodge feeling refreshed. Consequently, you are always in the best position for professional photography, whether you are capturing a pride of lions or the peak of Kilimanjaro.
Wildlife Highlights of Your Tsavo and Amboseli Private Safari
The final portion of your 5 Day Tsavo and Amboseli Safari from Mombasa takes you to the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Historically, Amboseli National Park is world-renowned for its massive elephant herds and swamp-dwelling hippos. Furthermore, the park’s unique ecosystem allows for incredible sightings against the backdrop of Africa’s highest mountain. In addition, our expert guides coordinate game drives to ensure you are in the right place at the right time for the best lighting. Ultimately, this private circuit offers a profound connection to Kenya’s natural heritage and conservation efforts.
Schedule Details
Day 1: Mombasa – Tsavo East National Park
You’ll be picked up from the airport or your hotel early in the morning and drive along Mombasa-Nairobi highway. Just before entering the park, have a brief stop to view the elephants leaving the Voi Safari Lodge water hole.
Then proceed to Bachuma gate of the Tsavo East National Park. Together with your safari guide, continue with a game viewing en-route to Ashnil Aruba Safari Lodge for your early lunch.
Spend the afternoon at leisure by the swimming pool as you wait for the sun to cool down for a late afternoon game viewing in Tsavo East National Park.
This day you have an opportunity of viewing the ’red elephants’ of Tsavo, lions, cheetahs, buffalos, zebras, giraffes, and numerous species of wildlife. Visit Aruba Dam, where a number of aquatic birds could be seen. Return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 2: Tsavo East National Park - Amboseli National Park
Enjoy a pre-breakfast safari in Tsavo East National Park. After breakfast, depart Tsavo East for Amboseli National Park with a game drive en-route.
Amboseli National Park is famous for being the best place in the world to get close to free-ranging elephants. Other attractions of the park include opportunities to meet the Maasai and visit a Maasai village.
The park also has views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in Africa.
Amboseli was home to Echo, perhaps the most researched elephant in the world, and the subject of many books/documentaries followed for almost four decades by American conservationist Dr. Cynthia Moss.
The park offers some of the best opportunities to see African wildlife because the vegetation is sparse due to the long, dry months. The protected area is home to African bush elephants, Cape buffalo, impala, lion, cheetah, spotted hyena, Masai giraffe, Grant’s zebra, and blue wildebeest. A host of large and small birds occur too.
Day 3 Amboseli National Park to Tsavo West National Park
Breakfast is followed by an extensive game drive in Amboseli National Park before exiting for Tsavo West National Park which has a variety of wildlife, such as eastern black rhinoceros, hippopotamus, Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, and lion. There are also other smaller animals that can be spotted in the park, such as the bushbaby, hartebeest, lesser kudu, and Masai giraffe.
Apart from wildlife, you will visit the Mzima Springs which is one of Tsavo’s most popular wildlife attractions owing to its resident populations of hippos and Nile crocodiles. Mzima’s isolation makes both species dependent on its waters: other sources are too distant for them to reach by overland travel.
The hippos also sustain an entire food chain. They browse the surrounding savannah by night and return to Mzima’s pools by day, where their dung fertilizes the water. Fruiting trees such as the date, raffia palms, water berries, and figs grow beside the water.
Day 4 Tsavo West National Park to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
Have an early morning breakfast then check out of the Lodge and leave for the mid-morning game drive. Later, drive to Taita Hills Game Sanctuary. Upon entering the sanctuary, begin a game viewing drive as you drive towards Taita Hills Game Lodge for lunch.
Enjoy an afternoon safari game drive in Taita Hills Salt Lick Game Sanctuary followed by dinner and your overnight stay at the Salt Lick Lodge.
Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a privately-owned wildlife sanctuary and national park in Kenya. It is located in Taita-Taveta County approximately 220 kilometers from Mombasa. The sanctuary covers an area of 28,000 acres (110sq km) and is adjacent to Tsavo West National Park and the LUMO Community Wildlife Sanctuary.
It hosts Cape buffalo, African bush elephant, leopard, lion, cheetah, Masai giraffe, zebra, hartebeest, impala, waterbuck, Thomson’s gazelle, lesser kudu, dik-dik, Hyena, and other smaller animals, including a diversity of birdlife.
Day 5 Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary to Mombasa / Diani
Have an early morning game drive. Depart from the lodge at 8:00 am after your breakfast. Enjoy game viewing en-route as we exit the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary.
The journey will then continue either to Mombasa Airport or Diani in good time for you to catch your beach holiday. If you are to end your trip to Nairobi, please do let us know at the time of the inquiry as this will enable us to plan your vacation wisely.
