Schedule Details
Day 1: The Gateway to Adventure – Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
Your 7-Day Kenya Safari begins with a seamless arrival experience. Whether you are arriving via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on an early flight or being greeted at your Nairobi hotel at 07:00 AM, our professional guide will be ready to whisk you away from the city’s bustle toward the pristine African wilderness.
The journey leads us south to Amboseli National Park, a legendary landscape famously crowned by the majestic, snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro. As the highest free-standing mountain in the world, Kilimanjaro provides a cinematic backdrop to the park’s golden plains and emerald-green swamps.
Morning Arrival & Safari Immersion: We enter the park with an introductory game drive, offering your first glimpse of Amboseli’s renowned elephant herds. We arrive at your lodge in time for a warm Kenyan welcome, a refreshing hot lunch, and a brief period of relaxation.
Afternoon Expedition: At approximately 16:00 hrs, we head back into the field. The late afternoon light is perfect for photography as predators begin to stir from their midday slumber. We will explore the diverse habitats of the park until the gates close at 18:30 hrs, capturing the iconic silhouette of wildlife against the setting sun.
Main Destination: Amboseli National Park
Accommodation: Kibo Safari Camp – A premier mid-range tented camp situated at the border of Amboseli NP, offering authentic comfort.
Meals & Drinks: Lunch and Dinner included; complimentary mineral bottled water provided during game drives.
Day 2: Exploring the Land of Legends – Full Day in Amboseli
Your second day is dedicated to a deep immersion into Amboseli National Park, affectionately known as the "Land of Legends." This title stems from the park’s status as the home of Africa’s most iconic "Great Tuskers"—ancient elephants whose massive ivory and wise temperaments have been studied for decades. It is also a place where Maasai culture and wildlife have coexisted for centuries under the shadow of the "Roof of Africa."
The Dawn Chorus & Kilimanjaro’s Peak: We begin with a pre-breakfast game drive at first light. This is the optimal time to witness a clear, unobstructed view of Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped summit before the clouds gather. The sight of a matriarch elephant leading her herd across the plains with the mountain as a backdrop is perhaps the most famous image of the African wild.
A Mosaic of Habitats: After a hearty breakfast at the camp, we set out to explore Amboseli's diverse ecosystems. We navigate through the Enkongo Narok and Longinye swamps, where hippos wallow in the cooling mud and the vibrant birdlife thrives. Keep your binoculars ready for the Goliath Heron, the elegant African Darter, and the Great White Pelican.
The landscape is a stunning contrast of open savannah, yellow-barked acacia woodlands, and volcanic lava-strewn plains. As we traverse the areas near the Namanga and Elemborashe hills, we will track the Big Five, alongside resident wildebeests, giraffes, and the graceful Grant’s gazelle.
The Afternoon Sentinel: Following a hot lunch and a mid-day siesta, we return to the field for a late afternoon expedition. We will focus on the park’s plains game, searching for Coke’s Hartebeests and the White-bearded Gnu. As the sun begins its descent toward the western horizon, we position our 4x4 Land Cruiser for a final view of the mountain. Seeing the "Roof of Africa" bathed in the golden-purple hues of a Kenyan sunset is a legendary experience that stays with travelers for a lifetime.
Main Destination: Amboseli National Park
Accommodation: Kibo Safari Camp – Mid-range luxury at the heart of the action.
Meals & Drinks: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included; complimentary mineral water provided.
Day 3: Over the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru NP
Following an early breakfast, we bid farewell to the Land of Legends and begin our journey toward the floor of the Great Rift Valley. This transit is more than just a drive; it is a cross-section of Kenyan life and geography.
The Descent into the Rift: We travel via Nairobi, stopping for a refreshing early lunch before ascending the eastern escarpment. We will pause at a panoramic viewpoint for a historical briefing on the formation of the Great Rift Valley, a 6,000-mile geological trench that is visible from space. This is a prime opportunity for photography against one of Africa’s most dramatic backdrops.
Waterways of Naivasha: As we descend toward the valley floor, we make a detour to the freshwater shores of Lake Naivasha. Here, you will enjoy a one-hour boat safari, gliding past pods of hippos and witnessing the incredible density of African Fish Eagles. This tranquil interlude is a popular highlight of our Day Trip excursions, offering a unique perspective of the Rift Valley’s aquatic life before we reach the "Bird Watcher’s Paradise" of Nakuru.
Strategic Rest & Expert Advice: To ensure you experience Lake Nakuru National Park with maximum energy, we recommend a relaxing evening at your hotel upon arrival.
A Note on Park Logistics: Per park regulations, re-entry is not permitted for guests staying in hotels located outside the park boundaries (such as the Lake Nakuru Chester Hotel). To maximize your wildlife viewing, we highly recommend an upgrade to a lodge inside the park, such as Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge. This allows for immediate game drives upon arrival and additional viewing time on Day 4 before we depart for the Maasai Mara.
Main Destination: Lake Nakuru National Park
Accommodation: Choice of budget hotel or a mid-range lodge upgrade (Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge).
Meals & Drinks: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included; complimentary mineral water provided.
Day 4: From the Rift Valley to the Legendary Maasai Mara
We begin the day with a focused, 4-hour morning game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. This is our final opportunity to track the park’s healthy population of Black and White Rhinos, as well as the rare Rothschild Giraffes. The early light reflecting off the lake’s alkaline waters provides a stunning backdrop for any final photography before we transition to the savannah.
The Journey to the Mara: Following the game drive, we depart for the Maasai Mara National Reserve, descending further into the heart of the Great Rift Valley. A hot lunch will be served en route, allowing you to refuel as the landscape transforms from the wooded hills of Nakuru into the vast, rolling grasslands of the Mara.
The Golden Hour in the Reserve: Upon arrival at your camp or lodge, we recommend a brief period of relaxation to escape the midday heat. As the sun begins to cool, we venture out for your inaugural game drive in the Mara. We will be specifically searching for the park's famous Black-Manned Lions, as well as leopards, cheetahs, and the massive herds of buffalo that call this reserve home. If your visit falls between July and October, you may even witness the initial movements of the Great Wildebeest Migration, a spectacle that has earned the Mara a spot as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Your comfort is paramount to the safari experience. While our Budget Camping options (such as Flair Camp Mara) offer an authentic, "close to nature" feel, we also offer refined Mid-Range and Luxury upgrades.
The Upgrade Experience: Choosing a lodge like Ashnil Mara or Mara Sopa Lodge provides enhanced amenities and prime locations closer to the main migration crossing points. Please consult with our team if you would like a revised quote for these premium options.
Main Destination: Maasai Mara National Reserve
Accommodation: Choice of budget (Flair Camp Mara) or mid-range (Mara Sopa Lodge / Ashnil Mara).
Meals & Drinks: All meals included; complimentary mineral water provided during game drives.
Day 5 & 6: Maasai mara game reserve
A full day set aside today for game viewing in Kenya’s finest wildlife park, the Masai Mara National Reserve.
Our morning and afternoon (full-day) game drives take us in search of Africa’s Big Five and the plethora of other wildlife inhabiting this vast Kenyan game reserve. On clear days, the Mara offers fantastic orange-tinged sunsets that make for spectacular photos. Much game is coming at your doorstep when you in the park leaving you with the only option of counting your blessings that nature holds for you as you view them in their natural habitat.
The Mara Reserve covers 1510km² of incredible wide-open landscapes and fertile riverine woodlands, following the looping meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers in southwest Kenya. One glimpse is enough to explain its appeal; it is typical open savannah, with a mass of amazing wildlife.
Wherever you go in the vast Masai Mara Park you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as Masai giraffe, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala, hartebeests, wildebeest. Elephants, buffalos, zebras, and hippos are also found in great numbers. It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but reasonably common.
The ultimate action here is without a doubt the annual wildebeest exodus, the Great Migration, in July and August when millions of these grazers move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning south again in October for the new life circle to begin after a life-threatening move across the strong jaws of East Africa crocodile found within the mara river and talek river. Despite the wildebeest movement in the month of July, Aug, and October, Maasai mara is well known for its wide range of wildlife (flora and fauna) all year-round.
