The Kiambethu Tea farm day Tour

BOA 28: TEA AND COFFE FARM TOUR - 10.00AM-5.00PM

This special "Mrs. Mitchall's Tea Plantation" for over 20 years have have given our clients good experience.

The Kiambethu tea farm is about an hours drive away from the hustle and bustle from Nairobi and as such makes a welcome day trip from the capital for adults and children!

Situated twenty miles from Nairobi, Kiambethu has been the family home of one of the earliest tea growers in Kenya. The farm dates back to 1910 and the present house, set amidst colorful gardens, has been home to four generations. You will arrive at 11:00 a.m. and over a cup of tea or coffee the process of making tea is informally explained, followed by an opportunity to see tea in the field. You will take a walk in indigenous forest with the resident Kenyan guide who will identify the plants and explain how they are traditionally used. You will see the Colobus monkeys close up and wander in the gardens, which are home to a wide variety of birds. When you return to the house, you will enjoy a pre-lunch drink on the veranda with sweeping views across the tea fields to the Ngong Hills. Lunch is prepared with vegetables from the garden and desserts are topped with cream from the herd of Channel Island cows on the farm.

Kiambethu Tea Farm is one of Kenya's oldest tea farms. It's a family run business run by Marcus and Fiona Mitchell and it is possible to arrange a 'tea luncheon' with them. You can go, get a fabulous tour of the farm and learn the history of tea making in Kenya as well as of their farm and then get a home cooked meal with tea to follow!
(Tour departs Nairobi at 10.00am).Daily

Tours start off at 11:00 am from the main house. Marcus and Fiona welcome you with some home made biscuits (yum!) and of course tea, before regaling tales of the farm and the tea making process

The gardens around the home are lovely and well worth a stroll, especially to catch glimpses of the resident colobus monkeys! Also included in the tour is a walk through the indigenous forest that is still preserved (most was cleared for the tea farms). The guide is highly entertaining and comical!
The tour ends with a relaxed lunch. Again most of the produce is locally sourced and when making reservations inform them of any dietary requirements! The veggie options they had made was fantastic. Lunch is a 3 course affair with complementary beverages - wine, beers, sherry, soft drinks and of course teas and coffee!
